So, one of my good friends back then had just turned 25 she was young, slim, and gorgeous. Shed just started working at a travel agency in Manchester, and thats where she kicked off a romance with the boss.
Now, this guy was well into his forties, married with two kids. He began renting her a flat and showering her with fancy gifts. Their affair lasted nearly a year.
She always knew he had a wife and wasnt planning to leave her. But somehow, he started mulling over the idea that maybe he should get a divorce. His wife, meanwhile, definitely suspected something was up.
He told me that his wife had picked up on the signs, but she never confronted him or caused a scene. She didnt rummage through his pockets or check his phone, and she didnt make a fuss. That calm, dignified approach actually made him feel guilty.
His wife was kind, gentle, and attentive. She started looking after herself, dropped a bit of weight, changed her hairstyle, and just seemed to bloom. A few months later, as the spark between my friend and the boss began to fade, the wife got a job at their agency she became head accountant.
My friend was absolutely petrified about picking up her wages, thinking thered be fireworks. But the wife was nothing but polite proper English manners.
Eventually, the director grew cold towards his mistress. In a panic, my friend started acting out, making snide remarks. The wife, though, handled everything with grace and charm, winning everyone over. Slowly, the affair fell apart; the boss preferred to spend his evenings at home with his family.
The big turning point came on a business trip, where all three of them had to travel together. During a negotiation, my friend was rude, thinking her affair with the director gave her special privileges. Yet it backfired badly. The wife was composed and brilliant, and my friend ended up looking worse than the woman her lover was cheating on.
After that, the director asked my friend to leave the flat and told her it was over. When she came to work, the wife now the head accountant called her in and said they wouldnt need her any longer.
Even today, my friend says she wishes she could wipe the whole thing from her memory, but she still admires the wifes behaviour. The wife turned out to be incredibly wise and resourceful. She handled everything so well that her husband fell back in love with her and now absolutely adores her.
But nobody really knows how hard it was for her, how much she cried or suffered. She pulled herself together, waited out the romantic phase, and then took charge. Thats the mark of a clever woman.
But, you know, most other women nine out of ten would kick off, get angry, shout or threaten their husbands. But when a mans caught up in the excitement of an affair, whos he going to choose? The grumpy wife or the sweet lover? Hes not thinking ahead to how the sweet one might turn bitter in a few years.
The wife saw the bigger picture, even if her emotions got the best of her sometimes. Lifes shown that those who stay patient and act wisely usually come out on top.
If you ever find out your husbands been unfaithful and youve got the urge to scratch someones eyes out, try to hold it together. Take a step back, calm yourself, and think there might still be a chance hell come back. Hit the gym, book an appointment at the salon, talk to a counsellor, change your hairstyle, join classes, sign up for dance lessons, and maybe find a new job or switch things up at work. Start loving and respecting yourself again.
