I never could have imagined such a thing would happen to me. It never even crossed my mind to question who Id spent all those years with.
I met Richard when I was fifteen and he was seventeen. We married five years later, and within a year, I was expecting our first child. Richard was over the moon when our daughter was born. He doted on her, worked even harder, and made sure she had everything she needed.
He bought us a spacious two-bedroom flat, and treated our daughter like his little princess. Hed take her to nursery and all her activities, and theyd often go out for walks or sit together watching cartoons. Everything seemed almost perfect, until one day it all changed so suddenly.
While I was pregnant with our second child, there was a knock at our door. I opened it to find a young woman standing on the doorstep with a baby in her arms. I stepped aside and invited her in. She looked about twenty. It turned out her name was Emily, and she was nineteen. Emily was the other woman in my husbands life.
Just two weeks before, shed given birth to a boy, and now she wanted to put everything out in the open. She explained theyd been together for two years, but Emily had no intention of backing down. I rang Richard and told him to come home immediately. His answer left me stunned:
Girls, we used to get along so well, didnt we? Lets just leave things as they are. Im not going to change anything. I dont want us to split up, but Im not leaving Emily either.
I wasnt going to tolerate it. With tears streaming down my face, I packed his bag. When I threw him out, he turned and said:
Darling, youll regret this. The flat is registered in my name, so you and the children will have to move back to your old place on the outskirts of London. Dont expect any child support eithermy official salary is minimal. Now, youll have to think about how youre going to survive.
I couldnt believe those words were coming from the man I had loved all these years.
I was suddenly certain I didnt want my children growing up around him. Richard left with Emily, and I packed up mine and the kids things and moved back to my old flat.
There was no time for tears. Richard quickly filed for divorce, and I spent my last savings on a reliable solicitor. Luckily, the solicitor was excellent, and the flat ended up with me and the children. I never even applied for child support.
Seven years later, I remarried. My second husband is nothing like Richardhes a wonderful man. Incidentally, it turned out Emily had only wanted my exs money, and when he lost the flat, she kicked him out. Richard tried to return, but you cant sit on two stools, especially after everything hed said to me.
Would you take Richard back?
