A kind-hearted grandmother set out to support her troubled grandson, only to find herself facing a difficult situation in her own home.

So, let me tell you about Margaret, a retired lady living out in the English countryside. Shed settled into a pretty peaceful life, pottering around her garden and keeping on top of the house, enjoying the quiet of rural England. But that calm got rattled when her sons family started having all sorts of trouble in London.

Her grandson, Oliver, was always a sensible ladcalm, polite, did decently enough at school. But rather than heading off to university, he chose to work in a local factory, wanting to get stuck into real life straight away. After he got married and had a little boy, though, everything started going off the rails. Oliver ended up drinking far too much and throwing himself in with the wrong crowd.

Hed be out late, making poor choices, and it led to endless arguments at home. His marriage was teetering on the edge. Trying her best to hold things together, Margaret invited Oliver and his family to move in with her, thinking that a change of scene would help himand if shes honest, perhaps ease her own loneliness as well. Plus, a bit of extra help around the house and garden wouldnt hurt.

At first, things really did start to improve. Oliver seemed to settle down, his wife was visibly relieved, and even their little boy started coming out to help in the garden. They all got into a new routine, and for a while, it felt like the family had found its feet again. But then, just a month later, Oliver slipped back into his old ways. Before long, his wife had had enoughshe left, taking their son with her. Oliver didnt seem too broken up, though. In fact, he found someone new not long after, someone who shared his lack of ambition. They moved into Margarets with him, barely ever considering how she might feel.

Then the money worries started creeping in. Debt collectors were on their case, demanding repayment. To make matters worse, Oliver started borrowing from Margarets old friends, which really hurt her. Still, he managed to convince her to sign over the cottage to him, leaving her in a terribly vulnerable spot. Mark and his new partner happily lived off Margarets retirement money and the comfort of her home, never contributing a penny or a minutes help.

One particularly miserable day, Margaret let out, If there is a hell after this life, I wont be scared. Ive already had my fair share of it here. Not long after, Oliver and his partner came up with a dodgy idea for a business and took out a hefty loan from the bank. If the plan goes pear-shaped, they could all end up homeless and in real trouble, having to finally face the outcome of their reckless choices.
