Throughout my life, my parents have always stood by my sister’s side. However, my grandmother’s recent actions towards me will forever be etched in my memory.

So, you know, in our family there were two daughtersme and Emily. It was always painfully obvious that Emily held the most special place in our parents hearts, and honestly, they never tried to hide it. Their favouritism started right from Emilys early childhood. She got the nicest clothes, the best toys, while I ended up with whatever was left over. And to make matters worse, Emily looked so much like Mum and Dadreally graceful and pretty. I, on the other hand, resembled my dads brother, and lets just say he wasnt known for his good looks. Even Mum and Dad would joke, calling me the ugly duckling.

After finishing secondary school, Mum and Dad bought Emily a flat in Manchester and began fixing it up for her. Meanwhile, I was packed off to live with Grandma in her modest three-bedroom place.

During that time, Grandma became severely ill, so it was my job to rush home after school and look after her. At one point, Grandma confided in me, saying she planned to leave her flat to my parents. I kept asking Mum and Dad for help, because dealing with everything on my own was really tough. But they kept saying they were too busy sorting out Emilys flat. Just before Grandma passed away, she told me shed saved a hefty sum of money just for me. She begged me to keep this secret from Mum and Dad and to quietly take the money for myself. After her funeral, Mum and Dad tore the place apart looking for the money, but all their efforts came to nothing.

By that stage, Id already used Grandmas gift to buy my own cosy two-bedroom flat and started renovating it. Still, I kept living at Grandmas old place. Two months later, Mum and Dad decided they wanted to rent out Grandma’s flatapparently Emily needed financial help because her sister was struggling. Naturally, I asked if I could have a place of my own, and they just brushed me off, saying I was grown up now and should figure things out myself. So, I did. Once my flat was ready for renovations, I moved in. I even met a lovely boyfriendwe were really serious. But the moment Mum and Dad found out Id bought my own flat, they went round telling everyone I was a thief.

Honestly, after being called names for so long, I finally told them to leave me alone for good and cut off all contact.
