So, you know my neighboursthe older couple who live just next door? Their daughter, Emily, lives with them along with her three girls. People say shes a bit unlucky in love. The story goes that Emilys children each have different dads and, you know how people love to talk, theres always some sort of gossip flying around.
Apparently, Emily, whose dad passed away when she was young, first got married at just 18. Her husband, everyone says, was head over heels for her. And her parents were totally fine with it, just happy that she seemed happy, you know? Who wouldnt want that for their child?
Anyway, they were together for about five years but didnt have any kids, and people started whispering. Its classic, isnt it? Everyone always assumes the womans at fault. Some said maybe she hadnt lived the best way before she got marriedridiculous, really.
To make it worse, Emilys mother-in-law was the typical old-school country womanalways in her sons ear, telling him Emily wasnt fit to be a wife since she couldnt give him children. Eventually, her husband listened to his mum and walked out. It was time for a divorce, but Emily didnt bother dealing with all the paperwork to change her name back. She just thoughtwhats the point in making it more complicated?
After that, Emily met someone new and, out of the blue, fell pregnant. So, turns out she wasnt the one who couldnt have childrenit had been her first husband all along! Still, not that it mattered in the end. This new guy ran off as soon as she told him about the baby. What could she do? She ended up registering the baby under her first husbands surname.
Her own mum wasnt upset or anything. Shed always wanted more grandchildren, to be honest. After some time, Emily told her parents she was expecting again. At least this time, shed gotten married before the baby came, so her family would feel a little better about things. Trouble was, her new husband wasnt prepared to have kids just yetlife doesnt always work out the way you plan it. Their little girl was born but had some health issues, and her dad got scared and disappeared, didnt even bother to sort out a proper divorce.
Later on, Emily met another chap and got pregnant again, even though her parents werent exactly thrilledthey worried about how they’d all manage financially, another mouth to feed and all that. Emily didnt care, she was determined, and kept the baby. Of course, the new man upped and left as well, and the third daughter ended up with yet another surname.
The silver lining was that Emily finally bought her own flatyou know how hard that is here in Englandwith some help from her parents, of course. But after a bit of a bust-up with them, Emily realised shed have to figure out how to support her girls on her own. She tried to claim child support, but none of the fathers wanted to step up, and some even threatened her to stay away.
So, thats where Emilys at right now. Three lovely girls, but struggling to juggle it all by herself. Its just such a tough spot to be inshe always seems to land right back where she started, no matter how hard she tries.
