Lucy and I became friends on our very first day at school, and Henry joined our group at the end of the school year. It was clear to me from the start that Henry had feelings for Lucy. He even asked her to marry him on New Years Eve. However, Lucy turned him down, saying she was too focused on her studies and wasnt ready for a relationship.
Henry didnt lose hope and remained a loyal friend to Lucy. At the end of the second term, he tried again, but Lucy gently declined, telling him they should just stay friends. She later confided to me that she preferred men who were physically fit and financially stable.
Despite Lucys comments, I knew Henry was a good and kind man, even if he wasnt wealthy. Later on, my friend married a man who matched her criteria, and she invited us to her wedding. Unfortunately, I couldnt attend because I was unwell, and Henry also refused the invitation, feeling hurt by the situation.
That day, Henry came to me for comfort, sharing how saddened he was that the woman he loved was marrying someone else. After Lucys wedding, we spent more time together, and our friendship grew stronger. It was during a particularly difficult time, when my grandmother fell ill and my mother had to care for her, that Henry told me how much hed missed me. Eventually, our friendship blossomed into something more.
A year later, we got married and started building our life together. However, our happiness was interrupted when Lucy approached usshe had given birth to children three years after her wedding and had become a widow when her husband, who had been the mayor of the town, passed away. Lucy asked if she could stay with us until she found somewhere new to live.
