So, you wont believe what happened with my friend Emilyshe was admitted to the maternity ward ages before her due date because her pregnancy got quite complicated towards the end. The doctors really didnt want to take any chances, especially as she was expecting not just one baby, but twins. They suggested she go for a planned caesarean, but Emily was absolutely set on giving birth naturally, so they agreed to give that a go, knowing full well they could always whisk her off to theatre if things took a turn.
On top of that, Emily and her husband, James, had an arrangement for a partner birth, and as you can imagine, surgeons arent too keen on having extra people hanging about during an operation. Anyway, her contractions started quite late in the evening, so the midwife rang James straightaway. He turned up in about twenty minuteshonestly, couldve put the emergency services to shame! We moved them both into one of the private rooms to get settled.
This wasnt Emilys first rodeo, so she knew exactly what was expected of her and kept calm and sensible throughout the whole thing. By about four in the morning, the first baby arriveda healthy little girl who let out a proper good cry. The midwife congratulated her on the arrival of her first daughter. But instead of the dad beaming with pride and celebration, James sort of forced a smile and then immediately turned to check on Emily.
Not even ten minutes later, out comes their second daughter. Emily was absolutely radiant, so thrilled with her two little girls. But get thisJames just burst into tears, and you could tell right away it wasnt just emotion but something more. We all started to worry a bit, but Emily just waved us off and said, Honestly, dont fusshell perk up in an hour or so. This is just what hes like every time the twins arrive. He was hoping for a boy, but again, not to be. Still, he does love his girls, so hell be just fine.
And you know what? The very next day, we looked out the hospital window and saw a whole gang of girls outsidehis daughters, all giggling and running around him as he tied balloons and shouted up to Emily how much they loved her. Thats when we knew, ah, this family is wonderfully alright. Still, you couldnt help but feel just a little bit sorry for poor old James.
