So, you know, theres this bloke called William, right? He was the youngest in his family and his parents adored himthey were always doing their best to make sure he had a wonderful childhood, giving him loads of love and support. But then, when Will turned twenty, everything just sort of fell apart. His mum passed away, and then not long after, he lost his dad too. Because he was off doing his mandatory service in the armed forces, he couldnt even be there for their funerals. It still pains him, honestlyhe keeps their memory close to his heart.
After finishing up with the army, Will came back to his old house in Manchester, only to find his aunt and her family living there. He got the distinct feeling he wasnt exactly welcome, so he left without looking back. For a while, he crashed on a mates sofa, but, again, it was pretty clear he was just getting in the way. With no cash to his name and nowhere else to turn, he thumbed a lift to Birmingham, hoping to land on his feet with a job.
Through a friend of a friend, Will ended up working on a building site. Theyd promised decent pay, meals, and a place to staysounded alright, you know? Even though the hours were brutal, Will actually didnt mind at first. Then one day, the bosses vanished without a trace and left all the lads, including Will, completely in the lurchno money, nothing to eat, nowhere to go. Most of the others managed to sort themselves out, but poor Will was left with nothing, not even a passport or any ID.
Things really hit rock bottom after that. Will found himself sleeping roughsometimes at the train station, sometimes tucked away in shop doorwaysliving off whatever he could find in bins. His clothes became tatty and dirty, and he just couldnt get a job looking like that.
But then, fate tossed him a bone. One afternoon, he met a woman called Abigail. She wasnt conventionally pretty or anything, but you know when someones just genuinely kind? That was Abi. She would bring him sandwiches and have a proper chat with himthe first warm conversation hed had in ages.
It wasnt all smooth sailing, though. Will came down with a nasty case of pneumonia and ended up in hospital. The nurses really looked after himgave him a hair trim, fresh clothes, made sure he was eating. But what he looked forward to the most were Abigails visitsshed always turn up with a smile and keep his spirits up. When he was finally discharged, she was there waiting for him in the hospitals reception, holding out a new pair of shoes and some clothes. She gave him a great big hug, and Will was honestly moved to tears.
He left the hospital by her side, and soon enough, Abigails brother stepped in to help Will get his documents sorted, which meant he could finally get back on his feet and land another job. Over time, Will and Abi fell in love, and before long, they tied the knot. Despite all the hard times, somehow, they managed to find real happiness together.
