My brother and I have a six-year age gap, and hes the older one. Three years ago, he got married and chose to move in with his wife in her flat instead of living with our parents. The high rent in London left them with no other suitable option. As for me, Ive been married for six years, and my wife and I have two childrena son whos six, and a daughter whos four. My wife is from London, so thats where we settled, which is also where we met. My job is based in the city as well, so we managed to buy a modest one-bedroom flat on a mortgage.
Recently, my parents sent me a message saying my brother and his family were coming to visit for a week, and they expected me to host them in our flat. Although I was glad to see my brother after so long, I just couldnt put them up, given that the four of us already squeeze into our one-bedroom place.
When we met at the train station, we spent the day seeing the sights around London. My parents brought up the idea again that I should let my brother, his wife, and their son stay at our place, since renting even a room in the city was so expensive. Unfortunately, I simply couldnt accommodate them. At dinner, I finally offered to take them to a hotel, but my brother was upset, insisting they ought to stay at mine.
I tried to suggest alternativesperhaps we could find a good hotel, a hostel, or even rent a flat through some friends. They were having none of it, rejecting every option. It was clear they wanted to stay in London on my expense. Still, I strongly believe I have every right to manage my own home, which my wife and I worked hard to pay for, and I am not obligated to offer anyone else accommodation.
