I met Alan a year ago. He assured me of his loyalty and faithfulness, telling me his feelings were true. Honestly, we seemed quite alikeboth of us coming out of miserable marriages, both in need of a little support and kindness. I believed wed found that in each other. But the reality was far different. Alan turned out to be nothing more than a leech, eager to take advantage of me in any way he could.
My friends warned me not to rush things or offer him a place to stay. I stubbornly ignored them. It didnt even faze me that, at thirty, he didnt have a steady job or, frankly, much of a home. He didnt even know how to drive. But all I could think about was the romance of it all. My head was firmly stuck in the clouds, imagining I was a lovestruck teenager.
Everything shifted the night he didnt come home, and the following morning I realised some of my money was missing. It woke me upfinally. Thats when everything truly changed.
I had even tried to help him find a job. He ate at my table, wore the clothes I bought him. We went out together to places hed never beenrestaurants, shopping centres. He always behaved himself, polite with my family and friends, never causing a scene. I told myself he would turn his life around, that he just needed time.
But I was completely wrong. My patience was paper-thin by the end. I had no choice but to ask him to leave. Even then, he tried to walk out with the phone Id given him, but I put my foot down and told him he could only take what he had brought with him.
Did I feel insulted? Of course! Do I regret wasting an entire year of my life on him? Absolutely! In the end, my mistake cost me dearlyin every sense. That parasite took advantage of my kindness. I only hope Ive grown wiser for it.
Dont let yourself be fooled like I was. Be careful and watchful. Test your partners sincerity. If something feels wrong, act quickly to protect yourself. Give back only what you receive.
