Mum Always Said Dad Never Wanted Me, but the Desire to Find Him Haunted Me – and I Finally Did!

My life was shaped by the absence of my father, and as I grew older, I felt a growing urge to find him and get answers to the questions that had always troubled me. My mother was already expecting me when he left her, abandoning her to face the challenges of raising me on her own. She kept her pregnancy a secret, worried about the possible shame it might bring, while my father chose to avoid his responsibilities instead of accepting his role as a parent.

I treasured memories of my motherher steadfast work ethic and her tireless care for me. Her love came through in the little treats shed bring home and the gentle kisses shed plant on my forehead before bed. As I reached a certain age, my curiosity about my father only deepened, but I never found the courage to bring up the subject with my mother. I couldnt bear the thought of hurting her further.

After many years of absence, I finally decided to search for him. Among my mothers things, I found documents showing his full name and last known address. Unsure what to do next, I tried to look him up online, but with no luck. By chance, I met a girl my age in a chatroom who happened to live in the same city as my fatherManchester. She kindly offered to help, and without wasting time, I made my way to the address.

Unfortunately, my father wasnt home at the time, as he was away on holiday with his new family. Nevertheless, my new friend insisted on asking around the neighbourhood, and in the end, she managed to learn from some friendly locals that he and his new family still lived at the address. Once he returned from holiday, she tried again to contact him on my behalf.

Regrettably, my fathers reply was disappointing. He refused to meet me, explaining that he had moved on and built a new life with his family, and had no wish to risk it all for someone he saw as a strangereven if that stranger was his own child. His rejection struck me hard, and I began to understand the wisdom in my mothers words.

When I look back, I realise it was a mistake to seek him out without thinking of the potential consequences. His refusal to acknowledge me only deepened the emptiness I had felt all my life. Perhaps it was time to accept the truth and find comfort in the love and support I had always known from my devoted mother.
