My Friend Saved the Life of a Caucasian Girl, But He Could Never Have Imagined What the Future Had in Store for Him

Monday: Im jotting down thoughts from yesterday because, honestly, it was such a whirlwind I need to make sense of it. Ive been holidaying with my mate Tom by the seasideSouthwold, to be exact. The sun was brilliant, so we were parked at a little beachfront café, sipping on freshly pressed lemonade, chatting about the oddest things. Beside us was a busy ice cream stall, kids and families milling about for cones and sundaes.

Suddenly, the crowd shifted and people started gathering near the stand. Tom, always eager, pulled me along to see what was happening. There, right in the sand, lay a young womanunconscious, her face ashen. Her mum sat next to her, sobbing and shaking, desperately trying to wake her. I was paralysed, watching the scene unfold, while others stood gawking or snapping photos on their phones.

But Tom was incredible. Without batting an eye, he grabbed a bottle of water, sprinkled some over her, checked her pulse, and quickly realised she wasnt breathing properly. He shouted at me to ring 999. My hands were shaking as I dialled, but the operator was calm and the ambulance was on its way.

Minutes later, the medics arrived and took over, whisking the girl away. Before they left though, they thanked Tomhed literally kept her alive until they got there. I was both stunned and proud, not just because Tom had acted so heroically, but because most people just watched. I kept wondering if Id have done anything myself if Tom hadnt been there. Its scary how easy it is to freeze.

Tuesday: This morning, Tom and I were back at the same café, tucking into bacon butties and tea. Out of the blue, three flashy carsJaguars, I thinkpulled up out front. Tom eyed them and whispered, Imagine driving one of those, mate. Thatd be the life. Six mentall, serious-looking, but well dressedclimbed out and headed right for us.

One stopped at our table and asked, Which one of you saved our sister yesterday? I instinctively pointed to Tom. The men were grateful, but their stern faces made me nervous. Then, one pressed a set of car keys into Toms hands. Turns out they were the girls brothers. They couldnt thank Tom enough for saving herit was their only sister.

Tom was speechless. Hed been saving for a car for years, pinching pennies wherever he could, but every time he got close, something came uprepairs, bills, life. And just like that, he was gifted a dream car because he had kept calm and done the right thing.

I still cant believe it. Its humbling, thinking back on how many people just watched or recorded, not lifting a finger. Tom took action when it mattered, and it changed everythingnot just for him, but for a whole family. Ill never forget it.
