So, let me tell you a story about Emily she grew up in one of those quiet English villages where you could still find a one-bedroom flat for just a few quid. She actually bought herself a flat like that, but heres the twist: her husband, David, had absolutely no idea.
All the while David was away on business trips, Emily gave birth to their little girl. She delivered at a regular NHS hospital, but she told him it was a top private clinic. You know how that goes! And as for the money David sent back for groceries, Emily was unbelievably frugal. Whenever he was home, shed fill the fridge with lamb chops, fish, and all sorts of fancy bits. But the moment hed leave, the penny-pinching started up again.
She never once bought brand new things for her daughter. If they needed something, a neighbour would drop something off, or Emily would hunt down bargains on cheap online jumble sales. Thats how she managed to stash away enough for her own place. Emily often called her mum over to watch the baby while she snuck out to her job on the sly. But honestly, it was Davids own fault. Emily did everything he asked, exactly as he wanted she was always the dutiful wife from the countryside, while he fancied himself a big city gent, forever barking orders at her.
But she soon realised she couldnt keep it up. She saw it coming one day, Davids short temper would get the best of him, and that would be it.
She got pretty creative with the shopping, too. Say she picked up a couple of apples for their daughter; shed tell David shed bought a whole kilo. It took her two and a half years to squirrel away enough cash. Then, the next time David was away in London for work, she packed up herself and her daughter and left. She filed for divorce the day before.
It didnt all go smoothly, mind. David rang her up, swearing blind that family life would be different now, promising nothing would spoil things again. Other times, though, his calls turned nasty threatening that hed never stop until he got what he wanted.
Soon enough, she heard hed found himself a new flame a uni student, apparently. Emilys certain hes treating this new girl just like he did her.
But Emily never lied to David in that way. The money she put aside you could call it hard-earned. She went without, scrimped and saved, just for a shot at a better life. The truth is, she had no other option. She just had to rescue herself, and her little girl.
