Let me tell you about something that happened to me not long ago. I hired a cleaner to work in my office, a lovely English lady called Grace. Shes always on time, puts in real hard graft, and honestly, she gets the place spotless in under an hour, all done before the first colleague even arrives.
Anyway, the other day she popped by my office to pick up her wages. She looked really smart, hair done up beautifully I almost didnt recognise her at first! When she came in, she asked me:
“Is it true your employees get a discount at the car wash round the corner?”
Ill be honest, I was a bit puzzled. I wasnt sure why she was asking or what she needed it for, but I told her it was true and said of course, she should have the same discount. I even told her to bring her whole family along, theyd get the offer too, since she worked for us.
Nothing could have prepared me for what I saw next. Honestly, I was gobsmacked! She turned up with her husband and daughter in these expensive cars she rolled up in a top-of-the-range Mercedes, and her family were driving equally flashy motors. I just couldnt get my head around how someone working as a cleaner could afford that kind of thing.
Well, my curiosity got the better of me, so I did a bit of digging. Turns out, Grace cleans at about twenty offices like mine a day, and she brings in a small fortune every month thousands of pounds! Can you believe it?
Now Im actually thinking about asking her to give me a few pointers on running a business!
