My Parents Never Gave Me the Support I Needed, but My Friends Stood by Me Through Every Hardship—Although They Say Family Is Forever, That Wasn’t True in My Case. My Friends Have Always Encouraged and Helped Me When I Needed It Most.

My parents never really gave me the support I needed, but my friends were always there for me through thick and thin. Although people say that family is forever, that wasnt the case for me. My friends constantly stood by my side, encouraging me and helping whenever I needed it most.

Our friendship began back in school, where a group of boys and girls grew close. When I mentioned wanting to take an art class, my parents refused to pay for the lessons. Still, my mates stepped in to help. They generously gave me art supplies, and one of them, Adam, even persuaded his talented sistera designerto teach me at no cost. As my graduation approached, my parents showed little interest and didnt want to spend any money. Again, my friends came to the rescue. They found part-time jobs to cover the costs for the event and helped me get ready, from stitching my suit to sorting out my hair and making sure I looked the part.

Later, when I decided to switch universities, my parents objected once more. They gave me an ultimatum: either study where they wanted or pay my own way. Thankfully, my friends supported me during that difficult time. I moved in with them, and they helped meet my basic needs while I saved up my wages to pay for my studies.

Throughout my life, my friends have always been there, helping me in so many ways. They chipped in with my mortgage, worked together to renovate my house, and took care of me when I was ill. Meanwhile, my parents and brother never lifted a finger to help in any of these situations. Despite their claims that family should always offer unwavering support, I havent spoken to them in four years. To be honest, its become clear that theres really no point in reaching out, because my friends have proven themselves to be my real familyalways willing to offer support, lend a shoulder, and stand by me in times of need. My family consists of six people: four mates from school and two from university, and Im truly grateful to have them in my life.
