It so happened that I never married, nor do I have children. Life has unfolded in quite an unusual way for me. Now, I am 57 years old. Not long ago, I celebrated my birthday. It was just the two of usmyself and my mother. There wasnt anyone to invite, as I don’t have friends, and mum and I have no extended family.
We live together, always supporting each other. My mother is 86 now. To be honest, I dont know what I will do when shes no longer here. Thankfully, shes in good spirits! Even as age and health concerns catch up to her, she never gives in and still enjoys strolling around the neighbourhood on her own.
Im retired now, but I continue working since our pensions dont cover everything we need for a decent life. Despite that, Im grateful to have my dear mum by my side. After all, there are people far worse off than ussome without a flat, family, or any money at all.
Mum and I manage to live quietly and peacefully. In the evenings, we share cups of tea, do a bit of knitting, and watch our favourite films and series. At the weekends, I bake cakes and invite our neighbours over. They tell us stories about their families. It brings me joy to see others doing well, and I pray for mum and me to steer clear of any misfortunes.
This is how we carry on with our lives. I only wish this chapter could last a long time for both me and my mother…
