My neighbors mistakenly believed my wife was underage and reported us to the police, claiming an elderly man was living with a young girl…

My wife and I took out a mortgage to buy a flat together. We did a bit of decorating, moved our things in, and after a month, settled in for good. Wanting to make friends with the people living nearby, we invited the elderly couple from across the hall over for a cup of tea.

Looking back, they finished their tea rather hurriedly. Once they learned that the young woman with me was my wife rather than my daughter, they suddenly found an excuse to leave. It was a Friday evening, so perhaps they had plans.

The next morning, we were woken by a knock at the door. There stood a policeman, asking to see both my and my wifes identification.

To our surprise, he also wanted to see our marriage certificate. After ten minutes spent rummaging around, since nothing was where it should be after the move, we finally produced the paperwork.

The policeman glanced at my wife, gave an embarrassed apology for waking us so early, and turned to go. Before leaving, he explained that hed received a report of a man supposedly living with a minor in the flat.

That made sense of our neighbours swift departure the night before after hearing we were married. Im 24 and my wife is 26, but she has a very youthful appearanceshes often mistaken for a schoolgirl or a teenager.

She cant buy alcohol without showing her passport or driving licence at the local shop. On Friday, shed put her hair in two braids and gone out with a fresh face, no makeup, making her look even younger. The whole situation is a bit amusing, but still slightly embarrassing.

To avoid looking like some middle-aged father living with his teenage daughter, I decided to shave off my beard.
