If someone had told me this tale, I would have dismissed it as nonsense. But it genuinely happened to my brother and his wife. They were returning home after celebrating my grandfathers birthday in the countryside. It was around seven in the evening, still light out.
They were driving along the A34, when they spotted a young woman standing by the roadside, frantically waving her arms, clearly desperate. My brothers wife urged him not to stop, worried it might be dangerous. However, my brother eased off the accelerator to see what was happening. The womans face was scratched up and bruised.
Through tears, she explained she and her family had been in a car accident. Their vehicle had skidded off the road and tumbled into a ditch. She said her husband was dead, but their son was still alive, and begged my brother to save him. She pointed shakily to where the accident had happened.
My brother got out, reassured the woman to stay with his wifeher name’s Annaand hurried towards the crash site. Sure enough, the car was there, twisted among the bushes. Without thinking, he reached through the shattered window and pulled the child from the back seata little boy, about six years old.
When he returned to his own car, the woman was nowhere to be found. He asked Anna about her, but Anna merely shrugged and said the woman had followed him towards the crash. My brother went back to look, and for the first time, noticed there were two adults in the front seats. The driver, clearly the husband, and his wifethey were both lifeless. It was unsettling. How had she been able to ask for help on the road?
To this day, my brother shivers recalling it. The rescued boy has been adopted by the family, and now lives with them. My brother is convinced a ghost spoke to them that night, and I suppose some things can’t be explained. If theres anything Ive learned, its that sometimes, doing the right thing means listening to your conscienceeven when logic tells you otherwise.
