Heroic Brit plunges into freezing lake to rescue deer with bucket trapped on its head

The creature was seen swimming desperately into the Thames Estuary, near Southend-on-Sea, Essex, with a paint tin stuck firmly on her head. Her chances of making it to the riverbank were dwindling fast as the tide dragged her further out.

Just then, a hero appearedhis arrival captured in riveting footage. William tranquilised the deer and carefully lifted her into his van. He drove her straight to the local vet, where she was treated with antibiotics and painkillers before being set free once more.

Oliver chose to brave the water himself, and began swimming alongside the deer towards the shore. It was an exhausting struggle, but Oliver battled on, refusing to give up until he finally reached solid ground. The deer, crippled with fatigue, could barely stand, so Oliver picked her up and carried her all the way home. When he walked through the door, his mother was overcome with relief, delighted to see her son healthyand amazed by the deer he had saved!

Olivers quick thinking had rescued the animals life, and she soon recovered enough to return to the meadow. Though tired, she had no injuries, so Oliver led her gently to a nearby field where she could recuperate in peace.

In a gentle attempt to soothe her nerves, he began singing Simon and Garfunkels The Sound of Silence. Remarkably, the melody calmed the deers panic. She stopped thrashing and allowed Oliver to guide her safely to the riverside.

Once they were safely on land, the Good Samaritan helped secure her, and led her back into the woodswhere she belonged, unharmed and free.

We are grateful that the deer found safety and hope she stays out of trouble from now on.
