My Ex-Wife Tried to Sue Me for Half the House, But She Never Expected I Had Already Outfoxed Her

My relationship with my ex ended up in a courtroom. I wont point fingers about who was at faulttruthfully, both sides are to blame when any marriage falls apart.
The fact remains, though, that my second wife found herself a lover. He was a wealthy businessman who moved here years ago and then opened a quaint little café in our town. At first, she tried to keep the affair a secret, but eventually they werent even bothering to hide it.
Then, candid as you like, she sat me down and told me she was filing for divorceand wanted to take me to court for half our home. She clearly hoped Id get worked up, maybe even anxious about losing everything, but the reality is the house was bought solely with money Id earned through hard graft. My ex didnt put a penny into that flat, apart from living in it for two years. Now, suddenly, she felt entitled to claim a share.
I kept my composure. Didnt even protest about her taking me to court. I simply waited for her to lose the case and pay the court fees. Id already had a rocky experience with my first wife. That drawn-out legal fight lasted more than three years, and it was nothing but bickering and drama every time we saw each other in court.
Yet my first wife eventually got what she wantedshe managed to claim half my assets with the help of a shrewd solicitor. She left me without the flat Id inherited from my father.
With my second wife, though, I was much wiser. Before I married her, I already had a flatone I painstakingly renovated myselfbut it was registered in my brothers name. Hes the one person I trust without question. So, when divorce came knocking, it turned out I didnt legally own anything. After learning the hard way from my first marriage, no woman was going to trick me again.
What Ive realised from all this is how crucial it is to protect yourself, not out of spite, but from learning that trust must be earned. You cant be too careful, even when it comes to matters of the heart.
