There were womens clothes strewn all over the floor, and as I walked into the bedroom, I found him with another woman
England
David and I had been together for over three years, our relationship happy and built on trust. Wed already met each others families and were making plans to get married soon. Everything felt right, and I truly believed I wanted to have children with this man and grow old together.
The day he came back from a business trip, we hadnt arranged to meet, but I wanted to surprise him. I took the afternoon off work, baked a Victoria sponge, and drove over to his flat. Luckily, I had my own set of keys, so while he slept, I even managed to put the kettle on for a proper cup of tea with the cake.
Quietly, I opened the door to his bedroom, and before I even took a step inside, nearly tripped over something on the floor. The room was dim, so I switched on the torch on my phone to see what was there. Scattered everywhere were womens clothes, and as I moved further in, I saw him lying in bed, wrapped up with another woman.
They were fast asleep, arms around each other. I didnt make a scene. I closed the door gently behind me, left his favourite cake on the kitchen table with my set of keys, and walked out. The chill outside cut through me, and I couldnt bear the thought of returning to my parents house, so I sat in the park, alone, and cried. After some time, a bloke came over, crouched down beside me and asked if I was all right. I didnt mention the betrayal, but we started chatting the conversation just seemed to flow. Somehow, I ended up at his place, sipping tea in his cosy kitchen.
Now, we live together and were planning to get married soon. Sometimes I think fate must have wanted us to meet that way, because nothing in life happens without a reason. If Ive learnt anything, its that even the worst heartbreak can lead you somewhere better, as long as you keep your heart open.
