My boss was the one who told me that my wife was being unfaithful.
I was married and working at a small firm in Manchester. My boss, Richard Collins, was a divorced man whod been flirting with me for quite some time. I wasnt impolite, but he was really persistent. I always made sure to set clear boundaries. Several times I told him to stop, that I had a partner, and that it was becoming awkward because people in the office were starting to notice. He said he understood, and we kept things professional.
One day he called me into his office. He shut the door and told me he needed to discuss something personal. He asked if my wife still travelled on weekends. I replied, yes. Then he came straight out and said,
I saw her with another man.
He explained that his deputy manager had gone out to a pub with some mates, Richard joined them afterwards, and thats where they recognised my wife. Theyd seen her kissing someone. I told him I didnt believe it. Thats when he pulled out his phone and showed me a video.
The video wasnt very clear. It was dark, filmed from a distance, with loud music blaring. But I could recognise my wife from her coat, the way she moved, her silhouette. There was no doubt. I felt a rush of anger, shame, and helplessness. I left his office and went home. That night I confronted her. She denied everything at first. Then she said it was just a silly mistake. But she never moved out.
The next six months were a complete nightmare. I no longer wanted to be with her, but she refused to leave. The flat was a rental and she insisted she had every right to stay. She started making my life miserable. Shed play loud music early in the morning, invite people round without telling me, leave the place in a mess, make snide remarks, and mock me. Every argument ended worse than the one before. I hardly slept and was riddled with anxiety.
One day I checked the tenancy agreement and saw it was nearly up. I realised something very simple: this was not my home. I didnt have to put up with it. I started looking for a new place on my own. I packed what I needed, signed a new lease, and left. There was no goodbye. I took only the essentials and closed that chapter for good.
Throughout this whole ordeal, Richard was there. At first, just supporting me. Hed ask if I was okay, if I needed anything. We started talking outside of work first texting, then grabbing coffee. I didnt want anything from him. All I needed was some peace. He never pushed. Months passed before things gradually became more than friendship.
Eventually, I landed a new job. It wasnt because of him. I simply got a better offer with a higher salary and a more promising position. I handed in my notice. Thats when our relationship changed. He was no longer my boss. We were just two people going out together.
Today, weve been together for a year.
My ex-wife is no longer part of my life. I lost a marriage, but gained peace and a good woman.
