I’ve Been Married to My Wife for 34 Years—Now, at 65, I’ve Fallen in Love with Another Woman and Don’t Know What to Do

Mate, I’ve got to tell you something that’s been weighing on me. My names Edward, Im 65, and Ive been married to my wife, Margaret, for 34 years. Weve got a grown-up son, Oliver, whos married himself, with a couple of kids running around now. But lately, somethings shifted in me that I never expected at this ageIve fallen in love with someone else.

After Oliver moved out and settled into his own life, I noticed Margaret and I just drifted further and further apart. The house was quiet, and we seemed to become strangers under the same roof.

When we both retired, I fancied us buying a little country cottage, you know? Just a peaceful bit of countryside living. Margaret wasnt keen on the idea at all, but in the end I managed to persuade her and we bought a charming small place in the Cotswolds. I cherished those summer days we spent out there, but she hated life outside London. Margaret liked to sprawl on the sofa, reading novels or catching up with her telly shows. She downright refused to lend me a hand with the garden, always saying she wasnt feeling up to it, so it all fell to me.

Once autumn rolled around, we headed back to London. Margaret was over the moon to get back, but me, I felt out of place again. Within a week, Id packed my bag and gone back to the countryside on my own. There, I just came alive, you know? The air, the spaceit was where I belonged. Margaret decided to stay in the city. These days, we hardly ever see each other.

It was in the village that I met Anne, a wonderful woman of 60. At first, she kept her distance, but over time things have really blossomed between us. Honestly, Ive fallen for her. I want to divorce Margaret, but Im terrified about how Oliver will take the news. At the moment, I just tell Margaret Im pottering about fixing up the cottage, but truthfully, I spend most of my days with Anne, the woman I really love.

Margaret hasnt got a clue yet. And I just cant bring myself to tell her I want to split. Im completely lost about what to do. Any advice, mate? Because, honestly, I havent a clue.
