My father-in-law is speechless when he sees how were living
I met my husband at a mutual friends wedding. At the time, I had just moved to London and landed a job. Honestly, I was over the moon to finally leave behind my small village life. Our relationship developed quicklyafter a year, our daughter was born.
But everything changed after that.
Why is our daughter blonde and blue-eyed when both of us have darker features? my husband questioned.
Darling, I guess she takes after your dad. Look at the resemblance between them.
Dont be ridiculous. A child should look like their parents, not distant relatives. My mum suspects shes not actually mine.
To be honest, my mother-in-law had been against me from the start, convinced I didnt truly love her son. But my father-in-law was always kind-hearted. He was divorced from my mother-in-law, lived with another family, yet never forgot his son.
Eventually, my husband moved another woman into our home and told me to pack my things and leave. I didn’t have a choice.
I had nowhere to turn. My parents wouldnt accept me back, especially with my daughterthey said itd be embarrassing. Besides, the old house was freezing, impossible to stay in without heating. I rang a friend and she let me stay for a few days. Afterward, I managed to rent a small room for my daughter and me. But soon, I started running out of money.
One afternoon at a shop, I heard someone call my name.
Girls, where have you been? I even drove out to the countryside looking for you, my father-in-law said.
Im alright, Im glad to see you, I whispered.
Ive heard what my son didtheres simply no excuse. Hes just like his mother Where are you staying now?
Were renting a room.
Alright. Im in a rush, heading off for work. As soon as I get back, well sort out your housing situation. Here, take thisit should last you a couple of weeks, he said, handing over a brown envelope.
I was relievedI could finally buy food and milk.
My father-in-law returned earlier than expected and came to visit us. He was stunned by the conditions we were living in. He couldnt take us in himselfhis new wife was against it. But he found another solution: he spent all his savings to buy a flat and put it in our daughters name. I tried to refuse such a generous gift, but he wouldnt hear of it. He insisted it was for his granddaughter, not for me.
Within a month, my daughter and I began settling into our cosy little home. My father-in-law even brought over furniture and all the essentials.
No need to rush your daughter into nurseryshe needs her mum right now. Ill help you, dont worry. And, my wifes changed her mindshed like to meet her granddaughter.
Thank you so much!
Dont cry, love. Youre always welcome to come to me if you need anythingIll never turn you away. Things will sort themselves out in time, youll see.
Im so grateful that my daughter has such a wonderful granddad, even though she didnt have much luck with her father. He gave everything he had to help us.
Years later, I remarried, but Ive never forgotten my father-in-law. Hes always welcome in our home, and we visit him often. Everything is alright with us now.
