Hey love, youll never guess whats happened with Poppy lately. So my little one, Tommy, was already toddling around, chasing after his dad, and we were always trying to get the best for our first kid, even if it meant putting our own wishes on the back burner.
Wed splashed out on a pricey, compact pram that fit perfectly in the boot of the car. It served us well, and we looked after it like treasure because wed planned to sell it later on.
Fast forward a bit once Tommy outgrew it we listed the pram on Gumgum (you know, the local buysell site) for a decent sum. Mark suggested we knock the price down by thirty per cent, but I figured money was tight for everyone right now, so I went a step further: Lets halve it, sell it quick and do a good turn.
Just a few hours after posting, a sweetvoiced girl named Lily Morris rang, saying shed love to meet up and see the pram in person. I agreed, and half an hour later there was a knock at the door.
When I opened it, I froze. Standing on the doorstep was my niece Poppy we hadnt spoken in two years after a silly spat about boys. I was over the moon; Id been looking for any excuse to patch things up.
We sat down with a cuppa, and she told me she and her boyfriend James have a little son and are scraping by. After a candid chat we took a look at the pram, and she liked it, so I offered to give it to her for less than the advertised price.
The next day I was buzzing, getting the house ready for guests, whipping up a proper roast dinner. We all gathered, reminisced about the old days and soaked up the reunion.
When it came time to settle the deal, Poppy, catching on that I was being generous, hinted it would be lovely if Id gift her a pram for her sons birthday. I wasnt comfortable splurging on such an expensive present, so I told her straight up.
She took offence, called me stingy, and stormed out, shouting. Then she told her family she was upset about the baby, and they backed her up, which ended up cutting off contact with them too.
Thats when I realised you cant please everyone, and Im done doing business with family. Its a lesson learned, but Im still glad we got that brief catchup, even if it ended a bit rough. Talk later!
