My wife, Claire, was dozing beside me whenout of the bluea Facebook notification popped up: some woman had asked to be added as a friend. I clicked Add.
I accepted the request and shot her a message: Do we know each other?
She replied, I heard you got hitched, but I still have a soft spot for you.
It turned out to be an old school friend, Lucy, whod posted a picture looking absolutely radiant.
I closed the chat, glanced over at Claire, still sleeping soundly after a long day at the office. Watching her, I thought about how safe she felt, able to drift off in our brandnew flat without a single worry.
Shed moved far from her parents house, where shed spent every waking hour surrounded by family. When she was upset or down, Mum would be there to lend a shoulder; her brother or sister would crack jokes to lift her spirits; Dad would pop round with all her favourite biscuits. Yet she trusted me completely.
All those thoughts whirled around my head, so I grabbed my phone and hit Block.
Then I turned back to Claire, snuggled up, and fell asleep beside her.
Im a grownup man, not a schoolboy. I vowed to stay faithful, and thats exactly how itll be. Ill keep fighting the good fight to be the kind of bloke who never cheats his wife or shatters his family.
