During her lunch break, Emma stopped by a café and spotted her husband with another woman. She decided to teach them both a lesson.
Stepping out of her office building, Emma sighed. The day had been nothing but stress. Did he really need those reports right now? She couldve handled it tomorrow. Needing a break, she headed to her favourite café, dreaming of a Greek salad and a lattea small escape from the grind.
Inside, the café was nearly empty. Just as she moved toward her usual table, she froze. A familiar faceher husband, James. And he wasnt alone. A striking woman sat across from him, laughing as he spoke, her fingers brushing his arm.
Emmas stomach twisted. The woman looked like shed stepped off a magazine coverplatinum blonde, flawless makeup, a diamond ring glinting on her finger. James leaned in, whispering something that made her laugh.
Emmas hands clenched. Her first instinct was to storm over, but she forced herself to pause. No, that would be too easy.
She retreated to a corner table, keeping them in sight. Ordering her salad and coffee, she barely touched either. Instead, she pulled out her phone and dialled Jamess number. His phone buzzed on the table. He glanced at the screen, silenced it, and Emma smirked. Avoiding her call? Interesting.
She watched as James whispered to the woman, who giggled behind her hand. Emmas chest tightened. Memories flashedtheir first date, shy confessions of love. Had it all been a lie?
Then, a man walked past her tabletall, handsome, like hed stepped out of an ad. An idea struck. She waved him over.
Excuse me, she said, flashing a smile. I have a favour to ask. See that man over there? My husband. And that woman? Not me.
The manOlivergrinned. Need me to play along?
Emma nodded. Just a little performance.
Oliver sat opposite her, playing his part perfectly. Emma leaned in, laughing at nothing, stealing glances at James. His jaw tightened.
When they stood to leave, Emma made sure to pass Jamess table. Oh, hello, darling! she chirped. Fancy seeing you here. And whos your friend?
James paled. The blonde woman frowned. Work colleague, he stammered.
Really? Emma arched a brow. I thought you had client meetings today.
The womans smile vanished. Youre married? she demanded.
James spluttered as she stormed out. He rounded on Emma. That was a business meeting! You just ruined everything!
And whos he? James glared at Oliver.
Does it matter? Emma shot back.
Oliver excused himself quickly, leaving them to their argument. James threw down a few pounds and left.
At home, Emma found James waiting, his expression weary. Did you really cheat on me? he asked quietly.
Emma exhaled. No. I just wanted you to feel what I did.
James ran a hand through his hair. I was an idiot. That meeting was strictly professionalI shouldve told you. Im sorry.
Emma leaned into him, anger fading. Promise you wont lie to me again.
I promise, he murmured, kissing her forehead.
As they held each other, Emma realisedtrust is fragile, but honesty mends what anger breaks.
