Ignat, Hurt by His Mother’s Behavior, Decides to Live Apart from Her

You wont believe what happened with Oliverhe was so fed up with his mums behaviour, he decided to move out and live separately.

*”You dont respect me at all!”* His mums angry voice crackled down the phone line, sharp and suffocating, leaving Poppy stunned.

Poppy let out a deep sigh, feeling the weight of her future mother-in-laws demands pressing down on her. She remembered the moment just before her wedding day, when it felt like fate itself had stepped in to stir up trouble. Olivers mum, a woman of strict principles and unshakable opinions, had come down with a simple coldbut the way she carried on, youd think it was the plague!

The call came that morning, just as Poppy and Oliver were about to start their new life together. Surprise quickly turned to frustrationthis was completely out of the blue and made no sense at all. His mum insisted they postpone the wedding for weeks.
*”What do you mean, postpone?! Weve sorted everythingthe venue, the guests My parents are flying in from Manchester just for this!”* Poppy protested.

Oliver listened in silence, knowing full well what was coming. No one ever dared argue with his mumbut now, it was time to stand his ground.
*”Mum, its just a cold. I get youre worried, but we cant cancel the wedding over something so small.”*

His firm tone caught her off guard. Shed spent years controlling him, and this was the first time hed pushed back. A choked sob came through the phonelike she was swallowing down furious tears.
*”Fine. If neither of you care about my health then have it your way. Just rememberif anything goes wrong, itll be on your heads.”*

Thenclick. Silence fell, broken only by Poppys fingers nervously tapping the table.

Olivers mum sat there, hand trembling as she gripped her phone, scrolling through contacts. Her heart pounded, but her mind was setthey *would not* celebrate while she was *”at deaths door.”*
*”Hello, Lily? Its me. Listen, Im so sorry to call last minute, but the weddings off. Ive got the fluwell have to reschedule. Oh, yes, Oliver agrees, hes worried sick about me.”*
A pause, then a hushed whisper:
*”Oh, you poor love! Of course, get well first!”*
She exhaled in relief. Lying wasnt easy, but she *had* to do it.

Next call.
*”Hi, Natasha! Yes, you heard right. Weve had to postpone the wedding. Im terribly illdoctors orders.”*
Natasha gasped.
*”Oh, what a nightmare! Get well soon, darling!”*
One by one, the calls went out, repeating the same script: *”So sorry, but we have to delay.”* Everyone reacted the samesympathy, concern. Only a tiny voice in her head whispered that this was wrong. That she was hurting her son, her family herself.

Hanging up the last call, she sank onto the sofa, exhausted. Her phone buzzed in her hand, demanding confirmation. Tears rolled down her cheeks.

By the evening of the wedding, only a handful of guests remainedPoppys closest friends, a few of Olivers colleagues, and distant relatives who barely spoke to his mum. The rest had vanished, swayed by her warningseven though no official cancellation had gone out.

Poppy felt dizzy with shock, then angerhot and unfair. But despite it all, the atmosphere stayed joyful. The guests laughed, danced, and celebrated, wrapping the couple in warmth.

Meanwhile, miles away, Olivers mum sat alone, quietly crying, cursing fate for *”humiliating”* her. Her rage twisted into loneliness, crashing over her like a wave.
*”To them, my cold is nothingjust some silly old womans drama. Was it so hard to show a little care?”*

When the truth came out, Olivers family felt betrayed. Some called her out; others stayed quiet, afraid of the fallout.

In the end, Oliverhurt by his mums behaviourdecided to cut ties. He and Poppy moved to Bristol, leaving the drama behind.
