Before the Divorce, She Cared for the Child Alone – Then Found a Nanny in Her Husband’s Mother

Before the divorce, Emily took care of her little one all by herself, but later she found a babysitterher ex-husbands mum.

Before the split, Emily was handling everything solo, but then she started looking for childcare. She found it, alrightjust not in the way she expected. Her mother-in-law stepped in. At first, Emily just asked if she knew anyone who could help, but the woman offered herselfobviously, for a fee. Emily doesnt earn much, so every penny counts.

At work, Ive got this colleague whos really having a rough time. She barely takes care of herselfnever visits a beautician. I keep wondering where her salary even goes. She works, lives with her parents, doesnt have a mortgage like the rest of us, and her ex-mother-in-law looks after the kid. Plus, she gets child support.

Turns out, Emily has to pay her parents rent for her room *and* her ex-MIL for childcare. Honestly, how is that fair?

About six months ago, when Emily started working with us, we hit it off straightaway. Turns out weve got loads in commonsimilar hobbies, kids the same age.

She told me right off the bat shed divorced her husband and moved back in with her parents. Theyre well-off, both in their fifties with high-flying careers. Theyve got a countryside house and jet off abroad every holiday. When Emily came back, they gave her a room to stay in.

I thought maybe shed get to live there rent-free, but noperight from the start, they charged her. Emilys just grateful shes with family and not strangers, which is better for her little one too.

They gave her a shelf in the fridgeher own space. She doesnt touch their things, though sometimes shell let the kid have some fruit from it.

I dont get how parents could do that, especially since Emily left her husband with nothing. Those first few months, she was in debt to her own mum and dad.

Before the divorce, she did everything herself, but after, she needed help. So she found a solutionher exs mum. At first, she just asked if the woman knew anyone, but she volunteered herself for pay. Emily didnt mind, though. Her ex-MIL knows the kid inside outwhat he likes, what he doesnt, whats allowed and whats not. Shes reliable. So now, when Emily needs her, the woman steps in.

It *should* all be fine, but Emilys skintbarely making ends meet, let alone affording anything extra.

I just cant wrap my head around how parents could treat their own child like this
