There’s No Room for Her in My Life, Now or Ever!

For her, there’s no longer a place in my life, and there never will be! Today, I’ve decided to speak my mind. I’m not looking for sympathy or advice—I simply need to relieve this burden in my heart. I know what I’ve been through, and despite the pain and betrayal, I’ll continue to live with my head held high. Because I loved sincerely.

I first met Lucy four years ago at a fair in London. She was only in town for a couple of days, but that was enough for a spark to ignite between us. It felt like a scene from a film—long conversations, laughter, tender glances. Two months later, she made the decision to move in with me, leaving behind her life in Manchester.

We were both divorced, having experienced betrayal. I no longer kept in touch with my ex-wife, and she had severed ties with her ex-husband. Lucy shared with me how he had made her life miserable, manipulating their daughter against her. We both carried our emotional scars, and it felt like we had finally found a calm, mature love.

I was happy. But she was not.
I truly loved her. No one had ever cared for me quite like she did. We started living together and talked about our future. Love at a mature age is something unique. You know what you want, you appreciate moments, and you live intentionally.

Yet life had another blow in store for me, one I could never have imagined.

Betrayal
In early July, we took our first holiday together—down south to Brighton. The sea, the sun, long walks along the promenade… I was certain that everything was perfect between us.

Then, I discovered that her ex-husband and daughter, along with their two-year-old granddaughter, were also holidaying nearby—in Eastbourne.

I remember her saying that they had no contact, that her daughter didn’t want anything to do with her, that she had cut ties with her past. But one day, her phone rang. Lucy glanced at the screen and suddenly lit up with joy.

—Of course, come over! We’re here at the hotel, — I heard her voice.

I couldn’t comprehend what was happening. How could they have found each other?

Hours later, they arrived. Her daughter didn’t even glance my way—her entire attention was fixated on her mother. And Lucy… she positively glowed. She had never seen her granddaughter before, and now, it was happening.

She cried tears of joy, cradling the little one in her arms, kissing her and hugging her. I couldn’t ignore it. I felt like an outsider.

—I’m going for a walk, — I said, giving them some time alone.

When I returned, I saw her ex-husband looking at her… with tenderness, with a quiet longing.

I felt a sense of unease.

An Invisible Crack
When they left, we returned to our hotel room. Lucy immediately went to bed, not even wishing me a good night. It was the first time that had ever happened.

The next morning, she appeared unusual—nervous, lost in thought.

—I’ve just got a headache, — she said.

But something had shifted.

A few days later, she announced that we needed to return home early. She hurriedly packed her things and scarcely spoke during the journey.

And then… she vanished.

Disappearance
The day after we returned, she left for “work” in Manchester. And she never came back.

I called her, but she constantly made excuses—“I’m on the tube”, “I’m in a meeting”, “I’ll call you later.” But she never did.

I couldn’t bring myself to call her again. I just couldn’t.

For a week, I reached for the phone, but would ultimately toss it onto the bed, realizing that hearing yet another lie was unbearable.

I understood everything without needing words.

A Closed Door
A couple of weeks later, she called. Her voice was soft, almost guilty.

—I made a mistake. I thought… I got lost… I’m sorry.

She said a bit more, but I stopped listening.

—It’s too late, Lucy.

And I hung up the phone.

I don’t expect her new-old partner to change. Perhaps in a year or two, she will reach out again.

But now, it doesn’t matter.

There is no longer a place for her in my life.
