When his wife died, the father could not stand it and left. Three children were waiting for him at home. The eldest was only 11 years old when he became the head of the family and replaced his father with the younger ones, 8-year-old Adam and 5-year-old Alina.
For the next 6 months, the three children lived alone. They were lucky to be in the village, everyone knew their situation, so everyone helped as much as they could, but no one wanted to take the children in.
At first, the relatives did not know about the children’s predicament, because no one could have imagined that their father would do such a thing. Their grandmother was the first to get worried when their father didn’t pick up the phone. When she arrived, she immediately said that she was taking the children to her place and would arrange for custody. However, Philip, the eldest son, firmly refused, saying that his grandmother could live with them, but they would not move out of their parents’ house.
