For a whole week now, my mother-in-law and my husband’s sister have been calling me and my husband all the time. They really don’t like the fact that we decided to sell the car. They are trying to talk us out of it. I, on the other hand, am very happy that my husband finally understands me.
Our car is very nice and new. We bought it at the dealership three years ago. Back then, my husband really needed a car. And our old car kept breaking down. So we bought a new car. True, on credit. We could not afford the purchase any other way.
I wanted to learn to drive, too. I even tried several times to learn to drive and enrolled in a driving school. But I realized it wasn’t for me. I get very nervous and get lost on the road. I decided not to spoil my nerves and stopped futile attempts to learn how to drive. That’s why only my husband drove our new car.
Then he changed jobs. He took public transportation to his new job. The new job paid more, but you had to work very hard. But Frank took it anyway. Then my husband started going on business trips to other cities. And the car was just parked in the garage.
So my mother-in-law and my husband’s sister, Alina, decided not to get lost and take advantage of it. They started taking our car. And then they asked my husband to put them on the insurance. They promised that they would drive me and the baby whenever I needed help.
But it turned out they were only willing to help me in words. When I asked my mother-in-law or Alina to really take me somewhere, they immediately had some urgent business. And I had to call a cab or take public transportation to the right place.
Very often my mother-in-law and Alina didn’t even fill up the car at all. My husband had to do that.
In addition to that we paid the insurance and sometimes repaired the car. And the car loan also took a decent portion of my husband’s salary. That’s why I decided that it would be more profitable for us to just sell the car: after all, we don’t drive our car at all.
At first Frank didn’t want to sell our car. He said he would soon stop going on business trips and use the car himself. I understand that Frank has wanted a new car for a very long time. And he hasn’t even had time to drive it properly. But we really need the money now.
I explained to my husband that at the moment a car is a luxury for us.
– We don’t drive this car! It is much more profitable for us to sometimes use a cab!
In the end, my husband had to agree with my arguments. He took the papers and keys to the car from his mom and let his mom and his sister know that we were selling the car.
I knew this news would not make them happy, but I didn’t think they would be so outraged.
– Why didn’t you think of us? How will we be without a car?! – My mother-in-law is indignant.
The interesting thing is that Alina’s husband has a car, but he just doesn’t give Alina his own car. He says he needs the car himself. And mother-in-law can go to her friends or to the store by bus. And if she really wants to, she can take a cab. But my mother-in-law and Alina keep calling me and trying to talk me out of selling the car.
– Oh, well, what will you do when you need to go somewhere? This way we would always help you out! – My mother-in-law told me.
I couldn’t stand it and told the truth.
– Just like the last three times you and your daughter didn’t have time for me. I took a cab twice and public transportation once. If you want the car that badly, buy it from us. We will sell it to you inexpensively, as relatives.
But this option does not suit neither mother-in-law, nor Alina. After all, they liked the fact that they did not maintain the car and did not buy gasoline. They just drove it and that was it. But I am very glad that my husband understood me and this outrage will finally stop…
