Sam is a bread delivery driver. On December 31, he was also working, but he dreamed of getting home before six in the evening. He believed in a miracle. At first, he got stuck in the convoy to the bakery, there were many people like him who were in a hurry to get home.
Then, having loaded the bread, he had to unload it because there was no loader in the store. For which the owner thanked him with a bottle of sparkling wine. Everything would be fine, Sam was driving home happy, when the sky was covered with clouds. It was snowing. High beam blinded his eyes, he switched to low beam and drove at second speed. Suddenly, he came across a stuck car in the snowdrifts that had accumulated in a short period of time. Gritting his teeth, he got out, and there was an old man.
– Do you have a shovel?
The old man took out a shovel, and in ten minutes they dug out the car. Sam saw a jeep passing by, advised the old man to follow it, and he in turn would follow him. They did not drive for long, because the forest that covered the road from the side of the road ended, then the driver of the jeep skidded, because he was driving at an obscene speed. Here Sam again came out gritting his teeth, well, what to do, not to leave.
– Do you have a rope? – Sam asked.
The jeep driver shook his head in denial. Then an old man appeared with a shovel and a cable, this time they managed it in an hour. It had been dark for a long time. There was no communication. They were driving in a column, but the joy was short-lived.
Ahead, unnoticed by anyone, there was a car. The driver of the jeep slowed down sharply and getting out of the car shouted:
– Didn’t they teach you to turn on the parking lights?
Having pulled the car out of the snowdrifts with the help of the grandfather’s shovel, each of them was already desperately driving quietly forward, when they saw snowplows ahead, they slowed down and thanked them.
At the same moment, the driver of the jeep turned up the radio and everyone heard that the New Year had already come. It seems sad that someone did not celebrate the New Year with his family, someone just soberly celebrated it, and someone was just not at home. They never met, but they remembered this holiday forever
